I once traded a child for a Lhasa Apso puppy. It's not like you think. It wasn't my kid.
I talk to them on the phone, and set up an appointment! I ask things like "where do you work/what do you do for a living" and "where do you live/how much yard space do you have?" How many kids?! I listen to their grammar, how well they're educated, etc. I do it tactfully, so they don't even know they're being tested!
I had one call me, and ask if I would trade something for a Dog! I asked what, and he said anything! :S I told him the price, CASH ONLY! And he said he would find something to sell, and get back to me! He never called back, (thank God)! But if he did, I would have told him I sold them all!
I thought he went by what brand of shoes they wear ;D
That's great to hear seafox, keep up the policy!
WoT, I have told people that if things don't work out, they can return the Dogs to me, but they don't get their $400 back! And I wouldn't re-sell the Dog! Pretty much everyone that buys a Dog, calls me in a year to tell me how wonderful the Dog is! And I sell only to good homes such as upper-middle income homes! That reasures me that they will be well taken care of! I have the numbers of everyone I sell to, and none of them have given the Dogs up!
Thank you for liking me! :)
dookie has a very good point. people are not acting responsibly
Why are you trying to argue this dookie?? We both know that there is an enormous pet overpopulation problem. We also both know that PETA does not believe in house pets. (I think they call their own refugees) I am not saying it's the humane societies at all (although all animals should be put down by injection, not by gas) my issue is with PETA putting down 90% of the animals... they are supported by so many rich and famous that you would think they could give the little guys more time, or connect more of them with rescue groups... but they choose to focus their cash on other things, like the "your mommy kills animals" pamphlets.
All my dogs came from death row. I've also turned in strays, two weeks after I hung up found pictures and put up a newspaper ad. In hopes they would find someone like me, but, realistically, just getting them off the street. It's too easy, between raccoons, foxes, and whatever, for them to get rabies. It's tragic, but the irresponsibility is in the marketplace, not in the humane societies that have to deal with the problem.
I noticed your ad doesn't list a source, W-o-T.
My brother has two rescue Australian Shepherd. Awesome, intelligent dogs. He prefers them to most people and I can't really blame him too much.
Furthermore seafox, I do understand SOME breeding. Growing up we had Lhasa Apsos that we bred because they were from a very special bloodline (direct descendants of the dalai lama's dogs) but in keeping with the responsibility factor, all but four of the pups (the four that were top show quality) were altered before being sold, and if the owner found that they could no longer care for them they had to be returned to us.
He does, but PETA still should not take donations while representing themselves as an animal rights organization when they put down animals without giving them a chance to have a home. I guess I do have a personal grudge in that they support breed specific legislation, which allows the govt to take dogs out of loving homes and kill them without any cause but their breed.
That fucking pisses me off. dookie does have a point though
I like you seafox, but that's not good. There are hundreds of Rotties looking for homes that don't get them when someone can go buy a puppy for $400 quickly and easily... with no application process and no requirement to return them to the rescue (or in your case, the breeder) when things don't work out. It's ten months to two years later when these puppies have destroyed the house and aren't so little and cute that they get dumped in shelters and gassed (and this is offensive) like Jews. Watch this if you are not faint of heart.http://www.youtube.com/watch?eurl=http%3A%2F%2Ftechnorati.com%2Fvideos%2Fyoutube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dfl6wYn7tQo8&v=fl6wYn7tQo8
When my Dogs have pups, I sell them for $400, and I do it in two weeks!
If I can do it, so can everyone else!
I adopt from the rescues who work to find forever homes for their animals, who are willing to put their money where their mouth is and spay/neuter every animal they come across in their work. PETA is unwilling to use their funds to do this and preserve the life of perfectly adoptable puppies and kittens because they think pet ownership is wrong. Yes, people should spay/neuter.. it should be mandatory and all breeders with the exception of those with champion lines should be shut down. So, Dookie... just so you're aware.. I DO adopt them myself, and plan on fostering as soon as my kids go to school. My puppy has special medical needs and was determined to be unadoptable by a shelter, she was about to be gassed when a rescue group found her. I was sure to make a generous donation so that they could continue their work... oh yeah and I saved two dogs from our local pound on friday by getting them hooked up with a rescue in NY.
Actually the practice is quite humane, considering the alternatives. The real question is: why are there 12,000 plus unwanted pets in virginia? Owners that buy a living being at the store like a nintendo and expect it to not have any problems. Irresponsible owners that don't spay and neuter their pets and are clueless when they can't give away a dozen puppies or kittens.
If you don't like that gruesome figure, adopt them yourself.
According to their records, PETA killed 90% of the pets released to them in 2007... this includes puppies and kittens... they don't believe in pets, yet keep their own, they don't believe in medical research, yet the head of the organization is dependent on pig insulin... they're a bunch of psychotic hypocrites if you ask me!
Don't a lot of PETA members disagree with keeping animals as pets? I heard one story that said PETA members killed animals so they would not be allowed to breed more pets. That's messed up.
